These Geoffroy's rousette fruit bats (Rousettus amplexicaudatus) have lost most of their former roosting caves on Samal Island in the Philippines. So many must now crowd into a single protected cave that many are forced to roost on the sides of fallen rocks on the floor where many are easily caught and eaten by predators, such as rats and pythons. To go elsewhere is almost certain death at the hands of people who eat them. Predation
