Emergences
Read MoreStraw-colored fruit bats (Eidolon helvum) flying between tree roosts in Kasanka National Park in 2003. This colony was then already facing a shortage of feeding and roosting sites. These bats spread thousands of tons of seeds nightly, covering enormous expanses during seasonal migrations. The value of their ecoservices is almost unimaginable. These bats are often quite active by day, moving to different roosting spaces and especially when threatened by predators as in this photo. An eagle had just flown by so the bats are in flight to make themselves more difficult of targets.
